That feeling when you have a great lesson with your teacher, when you discover great music, when you perform great music (with great people), when you listen to great music, when you have a great time hanging with great musician friends…
That feeling music makes us encounter is beautifully complex. It can make us seem invulnerable and vulnerable at the same time, joyous of life’s treasures and sensitive to its sorrows, confident in our understanding of the world and yet in awe of its magnitude.
That feeling is what we as musicians and listeners should pursue and what we as teachers should be helping students discover.
That feeling, I think, means the world to us.
