With the freedom of accessibility comes the harness of indecisiveness. There’s so much music out there that it’s tricky to find a starting point. That’s why I love the mixtape.
A mixtape wrangles in artists you’ve never heard before and puts them into this wonderful collage of discovery. More often than not, one artist on the mixtape will bite on the line, catch your interest, and then become a part of your regular listening.
Mixtapes are found all over the internet, especially in podcasts and on youtube. They can be curated by musicians you admire or by the internet anonymous. Most of the time, however, someone in person makes one for you. Ask your dear friend to make one or someone you’re getting to know.
Music is a great connector between people. A mixtape can help to serve as that bridge.
