A tour guide doesn’t just take you to a gorgeous vista for five seconds: “And we made it to the top of the Eiffel Tower! Got the view? Okay, let’s go back down.”
If it was only for five seconds, why would she take you up to the top of the Eiffel Tower in the first place? A view is best soaked in like a sponge.
Great music can be like a beautiful view. You are the tour guide and the audience is following you. Show them the sky line, the mountain ridge, all the minuscule buildings and cars and people, the trees, everything!
But by god don’t just breeze past everything. If you give the time to soak in the details the audience will take in all the loveliness the view has to offer. The music will become a beautiful view worth the price of admission.
