Beyond Competition

I don’t think there’s competition in music more so than pushing each other. Pushing each other to be the very best we can be as musicians, pushing each other to dig deeper into the music and let it pour out of us, pushing each other to be generous with all the humanity music has to offer.

And most importantly, pushing each other to not just be spectators but to matter, to contribute with our music to a large community or five people. This goes beyond winning the battle of the bands or getting the first chair in an orchestra.

I think it’s the most important work we have as musicians.
