One of music’s most endearing qualities to me is its ability to portray complex emotions.
In a moment the music exudes a heroic bombast and at the drop of a hat the chords portray sorrowful tenderness. In another moment the music can be unnervingly depressing yet hopeful at the same time.
Music throws all the ingredients into the pot at once to form a stew.
We draw from this kind of emotional stew everyday. One doesn’t just feel happy or sad at a given moment. Usually a person feels something that is like the pot of stew with a recipe of feelings mixed in.
Out of all the arts, I think music portrays this fact of life the most vividly.
