Music can simply act as wallpaper for one’s life.
This sounds offensive to music. I often thought it was so. Yet it isn’t necessarily a bad thing. How can you tell what is in the foreground without a background? Wallpaper can bring a room together or pull it apart in a kitsch disaster.
Perhaps we’re actually offended when the wallpaper is neglected, when the wallpaper is chosen lackadaisically, when the wallpaper is left to whither and crack.
While music for some of us is more than wallpaper, it’s not a big deal if it isn’t for you.
