Different Listen, Different Person

A piece of music seems to change with each listen, almost as if it’s showing a new side of itself to us. What makes this stranger is that it’s usually the same recording.

Could it be that we are changing instead? We think and react differently in every situation.

It makes sense though. I could feel on top of the world in listening to a song for the first time. After that I could be more morose and get something different out of the piece than when I was jolly.

Heraclitus thought that one could never enter the same river twice. Perhaps music can never enter the same listener twice.
