One of the great things about sampled music is that it breathes new life into forgotten artists. The way that a producer uses a drum break makes a listener curious who then finds the original track and then finds himself loving an obscure band that nobody has ever heard of. If a piece being played is one of the signs of its life, sampling can go as far as resurrecting music.
Classical musicians do this as well. More often than not, the pieces they play to an audience are unknown to them. Brahms is already in obscurity for them. To play that Brahms piano trio is to bring about a new opportunity for someone to fall for the music as they did for that killer drum break.
For the music to shine, to be loved. As musicians, from cellists to MPC using hip-hop producers, that is all we want.
